Blaze destroys Harlingen air filtration company

HARLINGEN — The Harlingen Fire Department, alongside the San Benito and La Feria fire departments, responded to a Tuesday afternoon fire at the Rio Filter Company, located at 210 N. Eye St.

The fire was controlled and did not spread to surrounding areas, according to City of Harlingen Public Information Officer Irma Garza.

Garza said fire officials got an emergency call around 1:05 p.m.

The fire department used four engine trucks and one ladder truck to control the fire, she said.

Garza also said residents nearby were encouraged to evacuate.

“We had PD helping us out to make sure nobody came close, and thankfully everybody is OK,” she said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“It looks like it is going to be a total loss for them,” Garza said.
