A motorist crashed into a utility pole Monday evening on McDavitt Boulevard, startling nearby residents who said the wreck shook their homes in Brownsville.
A local resident told The Brownsville Herald that neighbors there saw a vehicle on its side near a severed utility pole and cables that blocked the roadway. The neighbors immediately feared the man had been electrocuted, the resident said.
However, first responders removed the driver alive from his vehicle, an orange 2007 Ford Escape, police at the scene said.
The utility pole and cable were not conducting electricity, police told the Herald, and might have been support lines for other poles.
“His injuries appear to be non-life threatening,” police said of the driver, a man they described as in his 20s. No further information about his condition was available at press time.
Along with police, the Brownsville Fire Department was at the scene, where traffic was being diverted away from the single-car wreak near a curve on McDavitt near an intersection with Bon Aire Lane. Brownsville Public Utility Board crews was also notified and on the scene.
According to residents there, no power was lost.
