Sixteen more Cameron County residents have died from COVID-19 related causes, the county health department reported Thursday night.
The individuals include a 97-year-old woman and 73-year-old man from Primera, a 93-year-old man from San Benito, and an 89-year-old man from Los Fresnos.
Deaths also were reported in Harlingen, Rio Hondo, Brownsville and La Feria.
This raises the total number COVID-19 related deaths in Cameron County to 153.
In addition, Cameron County Public Health reported it had received confirmation of an additional 308 coronavirus cases locally.
The new cases include 12 children ages 9 and younger, 31 people aged 10 to 19, 52 people in their 20s and 10 people in their 80s and 2 people in their 90s.
This raises the total number of virus cases in Cameron County to 7,162.
There have also been an additional five individuals who have recovered, raising the total number of recovered individuals to 3,089.
Cameron County Public Health continues to work with the six nursing home facilities and one detention center in addressing the COVID-19 outbreaks.
To date, the Cameron County cases arising from the Port Isabel Service Processing Center has 12 employees and 84 detainees who have tested positive.
