Loaves & Fishes, the Harlingen-based homeless shelter, says one person who works in the building has tested positive for COVID-19 and two others are at home with symptoms.
The shelter staff is working from home and all shelter residents have been moved to a hotel for the next two weeks.
“Shelter residents have been relocated to a hotel until July 8. Any new shelter residents will be transported to the hotel. We are delivering meals to them at the hotel. At both Harlingen and Raymondville we are serving only dinner carry out style every day,” said executive director Bill Reagan on Facebook.
He said the offices and clinic have been sanitized already and that staff will be sanitizing the shelter, kitchen, dining hall and warehouse this weekend.
“Many staff members have already been tested for COVID-19. We have arranged for the rest of the staff and the shelter residents to be tested next week. Our Raymondville Director Ruben Garza has not had any contact with either the person who tested positive or the sick staff members. He is in our Harlingen office to take phone calls, process mail and keep basic office functions going,” Reagan said.
Reagan said they’ve received considerable funding during the pandemic and look forward to helping a lot of people in coming months.
