Another county detention officer tests positive for COVID-19

Another detention officer with the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office has tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of positive cases among department staff to 13 employees.

On Monday, the department announced via Facebook that two sheriff’s deputies and two detention officers from the downtown county jail facility had tested positive in addition to previously recorded cases.

“The necessary preventative protocols were immediately started by supervisors over the weekend. We wish all our employees a speedy recovery and ask for prayers to keep our 500 plus employees of the Sheriff’s Office healthy and safe,” the department wrote.

As of Monday afternoon, the department’s total infected employees were three deputies, seven detention officers, and three civilian clerks.
