Flood advisory issued for parts of Cameron County

The National Weather Service in Brownsville has issued an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Southeastern Cameron County.

The advisory will be in effect until 12:45 p.m. today.

At 11:14 a.m., Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Up to 1 inch of rain has already fallen.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Los Fresnos, Rancho Viejo, Port Of Brownsville, Cameron Park, Laureles, Olmito, Southmost, Downtown Brownsville, Brownsville, Lincoln Park, Gallegos Elementary School, Rivera High School, Rancho Verde Elementary School, Los Fresnos City Offices, Los Fresnos High School, Vela Middle School, Lopez – Riggins Elementary School, Gonzalez Elementary School, Brownsville Event Center and Perkins Middle School.

Additional rainfall of 0.5 to 1 inch is expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
