SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — As more businesses reopen, cities are continuing to encourage safety measures to ensure the public stays safe from the coronavirus.
The City of South Padre Island announced it will launch its SPI Cares campaign on Monday.
A city press release states that the campaign shares the continuation of safe practices of local Island businesses including — cleaning to and above State of Texas and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention standards, encouraging staff and visitors to wear masks and implementing social distancing and regular hygiene throughout the summer season for the foreseeable future.
As part of the effort, local businesses have been invited to take the SPI Cares Pledge and commit to the safety of guests and employees.
“ In an effort to inform visitors of the continued commitment to health and wellness during the reopening of tourism, the City of South Padre Island and the Convention and Visitors Bureau is asking local businesses to participate in “SPI Cares!” campaign,” the press release states.
Participants will be presented with vinyl decals to prominently display in their place of business upon signing the pledge.
The program will run in conjunction with the Island’s recovery message “So Safe, So Healthy, So Padre.”
In addition to launching the initiative, city and Convention Visitors Bureau personnel worked with the County Health Department to provide ongoing information on good hand washing, cleaning and disinfection tips, the press release states.
