HCISD to hold ‘virtual’ graduation ceremonies

High school seniors from the Class of 2020 have missed out on prom, school events and to many the most important – their graduation ceremony – because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students across the state and the rest of the nation will not be returning to campuses this spring.

With that in mind, Harlingen CISD announced on Tuesday the district will hold virtual commencements for all Harlingen seniors. The online ceremonies will be held on the same day and time that the real graduations were to be held in May.

In a YouTube video released by the district, Superintendent Art Cavazos said they will make the graduation as special as possible for the seniors.

“We will hold our graduation ceremonies online, via Live Stream, and welcome all Harlingen CISD families to join us as we certify the graduation class of 2020. While we can not meet in person, our staff is currently creating an online experience that will show photos of all our seniors who meet the requirements of graduation.”

Cavazos said HCISD has also scheduled alternate in person graduation ceremonies for mid-July if possible. Students will be given details about the virtual ceremony from their campus administrators.
