WILLACY COUNTY — An early morning crash turned fatal for a driver who lost control of the vehicle with three children on board.
Sandra Patricia Diaz, 30, of San Benito, died after suffering injuries during the accident.
According to DPS Sergeant, Maria Montalvo, the fatal crash occurred Thursday at approximately 7:30 a.m. on F.M. 1420 north of County Road 800 in Willacy County.
A DPS investigation revealed a red 2002 Mercury Mountaineer driven by Diaz with three children as passengers was traveling southbound on F.M. 1420 north of County Road 800.
Diaz lost control of the car and veered off the roadway. The car then went airborne and struck a utility pole.
All three children were transported to Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen.
As of Thursday afternoon, one child remained in critical condition.
According to Montalvo, DPS troopers remained on the scene further investigating the crash.
