Winter Texan Appreciation Day Fiesta Expo coming

HARLINGEN — Mariachi live music, a business expo and mariachi singers are just a few of the attractions that will be featured next Monday.

The 13th Annual Winter Texan Appreciation Day Fiesta comes back, this time at the Harlingen Convention Center from 1 to 4 p.m. at 701 Harlingen Heights Drive

Though there will be several activities as well as food options at the expo, one of the main attractions will be the antique car show.

The show is featured by the Antique Automobile Club Of America Rio Grande Valley Chapter.

According to Officer Arnold Rodriguez, the nonprofit organization has been active since 1987 and their participation with the Winter Texan Expo has been ongoing for several years.

“We’ve been doing this for several years now and it has been a joint effort. This show seems to always fall on Martin Luther King Day and we normally get about 75 to 100 cars at the event,” Rodriguez said.

“We present trophies to the winners of each category and we have six categories this year. We will start registering cars at 11 a.m. and judge at 2 p.m. and present awards at 3,” he said.

According to Rodriguez, there is a special category called The Winter Texan’s Choice and guests get to vote.

Cassandra Consiglio, the Harlingen Convention and Visitors Bureau director, said the event will be a chance for many businesses to be showcased and participate.

“We have over 60 booths ready to go for Monday. the event will have live music, mariachi performances and folkoric dancers to entertain the expo-goers and HCSID will perform a portion of their musical, Beauty and the Beast,” Consiglio said.

“This event gives business the opportunity to get in front of our Winter Texan visitors. The first 2,000 people to arrive will get a free T-shirt and admission is free to all,” she said.
