San Benito coach resigns after arrest

SAN BENITO — San Benito High School physical education teacher Jacob Gardner Gonzalez resigned from his position Tuesday, following his Dec. 28 arrest for possession of cocaine.

His resignation was confirmed by San Benito ISD Public Relations Director Isabel Gonzalez.

“The district does not comment on personnel matters. Therefore, there is no further comment,” she said.

Gonzalez was released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond.

Mercedes Police Chief Dagoberto Chavez said two more arrests were confirmed in connection to this case, Crystal Moore and Raymundo Cano.

Moore and Cano were charged for possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and endangering a child.

Cano was also charged with manufacturing and delivering a controlled substance.
