EDINBURG — A 17-year-old Alamo man entered a not guilty plea Tuesday morning to accusations he hit and killed a 46-year-old man and fled the scene of the accident.
A Hidalgo County grand jury indicted Carlos Vasquez on Nov. 14 on a charge of accident involving death for the death of Roger Duane Cavazos on July 21.
He remains incarcerated on a $250,000 bond, jail records show.
A Texas Department of Transportation crash report states a blue 2003 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Vasquez rear ended the 2006 Yamaha XVZ12 driven by Cavazos in the 1300 block of West Frontage just past North Alamo Road.
“(Vasquez’s) front bumper struck (Cavazos’) rear bumper and ran over (Cavazos),” the report stated.
The motorcycle remained stuck under Vasquez’s front bumper until it fell off in the 1400 block of West Frontage Road.
The man’s brother, Rogelio Vasquez, 19, was indicted on Nov. 19 for tampering with evidence, namely removing parts from the vehicle to impede the investigation.
He is scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 17.
Cavazos’ obituary described him as a dedicated nurse who enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
