Law enforcement authorities are investigating what was initially reported as an explosion, but ended up being county trucks on fire near a warehouse in Peñitas on Tuesday night.
According to Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra, deputies responded to the fire at 6:40 p.m. that occurred off Iowa Road and FM 2221.
“We have reports of a vehicle that was located at the Precinct 3 shop complex,” Guerra said. “They found two 18-wheeler truck tractor trailers owned by the county that were on fire.”
Guerra said that at least one of the trucks was a total loss.
There are no reported injuries at this time. The scene is believed to be contained, according to Guerra.
