McALLEN — Three busts last week netted the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations more than $828,000 worth of cocaine and marijuana, according to a release from the organization.
Two of the seizures occurred Nov. 24. The first happened when a 42-year-old woman from San Pedro, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, was asked to pull up for further inspection at the Anzalduas International Bridge.
Officers, with the help of a canine unit, discovered 64 pounds of what appeared to be cocaine, valued at approximately $493,000, hidden within in the car, the release states.
Later that day, a 43-year-old man and his wife, both of Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, were asked to pull over on the Anzalduas Bridge, at which point 25 pounds of what appeared to be cocaine, valued at some $193,000, were discovered in their vehicle, according to the report.
Two days later, on Nov. 26, 2019, CBP inspected a commercial truck hauling a backhoe excavator and discovered 706.5 pounds of marijuana, valued at $142,000, within the heavy machinery.
All four people involved with the three events were arrested, and Homeland Security Investigations is continuing the investigation.
