McALLEN — Along with Telemundo’s Carolina Sandoval and Jorge Bernal, Dallas Cowboys lineman La’el Collins and former defensive end and Super Bowl XII Champion Ed “Too Tall” Jones will be participating in this year’s McAllen Holiday Parade, officials announced Tuesday morning.
The Budweiser Clydesdale horses will also be back for another parade, which is scheduled for Dec. 7. Jerry Jones’ private Dallas Cowboys tour bus will also be on-site and made available to the general public, and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will be in attendance along with Rowdy, the team’s mascot.
The parade is now but one of many festivities in McAllen during December. The Frio festivities will last the entire month at the McAllen Convention Center, and city officials said the event will bring 2 million pounds of “real” snow with it.
Tuesday’s announcement at H-E-B on South Second Street was another notch in the city seeking to build on the previous five holiday parades. Over the five years, more than 1.2 million people have attended parade festivities, according to McAllen Assistant City Manager Joe Vera, who has overseen the parade.
The city’s efforts have also put a strain on city resources. City officials have put out calls for volunteers.
“Forty days,” City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez said at a parade announcement in October. “We have lost our mind.”
