Victims, suspect identified in deadly Alton shooting

ALTON — Police here have identified the suspect in the deaths of two men here Friday night as 22-year-old Oscar Armando Velasquez.

During a news conference Sunday afternoon, police referred to the homicide investigation as an isolated incident stemming from a domestic dispute in the 900 block of Jefferson Street in Alton.

In a news release Saturday, Alton police said they had responded to a shooting reported in the area at about 8:45 p.m. Friday November 8. Two males were confirmed dead by Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra Friday night.

Alton police confirmed the identities of the victims as Carlos Perez, 34, and Eduardo Rodriguez, 25. Also, a third victim, identified as Matthew Compean, 30, survived the incident and is currently hospitalized.

Authorities Sunday referred to the investigation as active and continue searching for Velasquez.
