Weekend parades on the Island

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — City officials are preparing for two parades that will be held throughout the day tomorrow.

Walk for Women will host its 16th annual awareness walk, which will begin at 11 a.m. at the SPI Convention Centre and will end at Louie’s Backyard.

An SPI Pride Parade will begin at 2 p.m. and will start at the SPI Post Office and end at Dolphin Street.

According to city representatives, motorists should expect traffic delays before and after both parades.

The city police, along with other city departments, will work together to manage personnel and traffic control barrels and cones that will be placed in some areas to enhance the flow of traffic.

“Public safety is our number one priority,” South Padre Island Police Department Chief Claudine O’Carroll stated in a press release. “We want to ensure the participants and visitors enjoy this event.”
