School district collecting clothes for students

LA FERIA — Before winter begins, students in need in La Feria ISD will be able to get free clothing from “Lexie’s closet.”

The school district is asking people for donations to be stocked for the opening in mid-October.

A fall donation clothing drive will be held Wednesday to support the initiative to have enough clothes to give to students.

The closet is named after one of La Feria High School’s two mascots, Lexie the Lioness.

“We are looking for donations to add to the closet, that way we can start as soon as possible,” Ida Prado, Family and Community Engagement Coordinator, said.

“The closet will be run by volunteers and it will be open a few times a month for students who are in desperate need of clothing,” Prado said.

Lexie’s closet is just one of the few projects La Feria ISD has begun this school year.

“We are hoping to get as much help as we can so we can open soon for our students,” Prado said.

Clothing donations can be made at Lee Facility at 400 S. West St. in La Feria.
