FEMA announces grant, loan application deadline

LA FERIA — A deadline has been set to apply for government grants and loans for those in need of help to recover from damages from the June 24 and 25 flooding.

With Monday, September 16 as the deadline, FEMA officials encourage those in need of help to apply sooner rather than later.

“We encourage everyone to not wait to the last minute and come apply as soon as possible,” said Maria Padron, FEMA External Affairs Media Specialist.

“We also want people to know that if they received rejection letters to come back to us and receive feedback. Also, if you feel like you need more money and you can prove it, stop by for help,” she said.

The U.S. Small Business Administration also has the same deadline of September 16 for those applying to receive loans.

FEMA officials would like to remind flood victims that there are mental health professionals available to them at the Disaster Recovery Center, as well as mitigation tables where they can receive guidelines on how to elevate and avoid future flooding.

“If they are feeling stressed out and overwhelmed they can make an appointment and an official can help them out,” Padron said.

“We do not want anyone to disqualify themselves, so they should not delay any more and come before Monday,” she said.
