Extreme heat will likely tax the Texas electric grid Tuesday between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., according to a Reliant news release. The company asked people Monday to reduce their energy use “making uninterrupted power more available for everyone” Monday and Tuesday afternoons.
The National Weather Service in Brownsville described Monday’s temperatures as “dangerous heat,” and advised Rio Grande Valley residents to limit their time outdoors, hydrate and apply sunscreen.
McAllen and Brownsville were both projected to feel like 113 by 3 p.m.
Reliant is requesting residents refrain from using “heat-producing appliances,” like dryers or dishwashers, during the hottest parts of the day, according to the release.
They also suggest the use of curtains or blinds to reduce direct sunlight, and to increase thermostats by 4 degrees when residents are not home.
