One photo at a time: Project gives back to veterans

By Maricela Rodriguez, Valley Morning Star

Veterans were honored in a different way yesterday at the Harlingen Veterans Drop-in Center. Local photographer Martin Buitron spent part of the day photographing veterans holding an 8×10 photo of themselves taken during the time they served in the military.

Buitron started the “Rio Grande Valley Veterans Photo Project” after his father, a Marine veteran, passed away.

He feels that it is a way to make them feel appreciated and thank them for giving part of their life to serve in the military.

Future photo project locations in the Valley as well as San Antonio are planned.

Once the project is completed, Buitron plans to host a public exhibit in recognition of all the veterans who have given part of their lives to serve in the United States Armed Forces.
