EDINBURG — The economic development arm of the city is facing another shakeup.
According to multiple sources, Edinburg Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Plinio “Joey” Treviño resigned from his post this week.
He did not return multiple calls seeking comment Wednesday.
EEDC Board President Jorge Salinas declined to confirm the resignation when reached by phone.
“No comment, but you can talk to Mr. Vela,” Salinas said in reference to EDC attorney Aaron Vela.
Vela did not return multiple requests for comment.
The board, however, is slated to meet at noon Friday to discuss and possibly take action on the “employment status, contractual terms and compensation of (the) executive director,” according to the meeting’s agenda.
There is also an item that will allow the board to name an interim executive director.
A former Harlingen commissioner, Treviño joined the corporation last year shortly after the new administration took over and fired former director Gus Garcia.
Treviño previously served as executive director for the Weslaco Economic Development Corporation from February 2014 to 2016.
His stint in Edinburg was shorter, having served as the corporation’s board president for about a year and five months.
Treviño’s departure comes amid a shakeup on the board. On Tuesday, Mayor Pro-Tem David Torres resigned from the board and the council nominated Hidalgo County Democratic Party Chair Norma Ramirez to serve in his stead.
