Cheers for the red, white and blue

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — It’s that time of the year again to get decked out in America’s signature colors — red, white and blue.

And what better place to do so then at local Fourth of July festivities.

Beach parade

The City of South Padre Island Parks and Keep SPI Beautiful committee will host its annual Fourth of July Beach Parade tomorrow from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Beach Parade will begin at Gay Dawn Beach Access 20 and will end at Starlight Circle Beach Access 17.

Friends of Animal Rescue personnel along with adoptable dogs and Schlitterbahn employees will lead the Beach Parade.

Attendees are encouraged to bring musical instruments, decorated wagons, strollers and pets on a leash.

Free goodies and watermelon will be given at the end of the parade.

Turtle party

Sea Turtle Inc. will host a Fourth of July celebration tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its facility.

There will be crafts and activities, including patriotic paper plate turtles, bean bag toss and $1 tattoos.

Games and activities will be free with the purchase of general admission or with a Sea Turtle Inc. membership.

Additionally, there will be a Doughmestic Treats Pop-Up store.

Attendees are encouraged to wear red, white and blue attire.

Firework fun

The Town of Laguna Vista will host an Independence Day Parade and Celebration Saturday.

The town’s festivities will begin with a parade starting at 5 p.m. at the Fire Station located on FM 510.

Participants are encouraged to wear patriotic colors and to decorate their golf carts, vehicles, boats, trailers and bikes with red, white and blue décor.

Following the parade, the town will host a Fourth of July celebration at Roloff Park from 6 to 10 p.m. The firework show will start at 9:45 p.m.

There will be children’s activities, food and live music by The Hot Rodz, a local band that performs a variety of genres such as country, Spanish, rock and pop.

Additionally, there will be a performance by Sparks Cheerleaders with the Capable Kids Foundation Lower Valley.

Attendees will not be allowed to bring their own alcohol to the event.

Laguna Vista officials will set up a booth to sell beer and wine.

According to town officials, funds raised from alcoholic beverage sales will be used to offset event costs.
