Family Dollar store plans post-renovation gala

HARLINGEN — A better and bigger Family Dollar will host a grand re-opening June 29 following the completion of its renovation.

The store at 821 W. Harrison is one of the convenience retailer’s older facilities in the city, but will now have a larger inventory of items in several categories.

The renovation expanded Store 2435’s frozen food sections and added space for a number of other food items. The store also has additional room for cleaning items and supplies.

Staffers at the store said there also is more room for party supplies.

There will be a grand re-opening celebration for customers from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 29. The event will feature gift basket raffles, giveaways, free samples and family entertainment.

In addition, the first 50 customers on Saturday will receive a gift card and reusable shopping bag.

“Family Dollar is proud to be a part of the Harlingen community and we are excited to welcome existing and new customers to our newly renovated store,” said Jim Van Slyke, a spokesperson for the retail chain. “The refreshed store will provide even greater values and convenience to our shoppers.”

A store of this size typically employs six to 10 workers, he said.

Family Dollar has four locations in Harlingen.
