HARLINGEN — Strong storms in Texas and the Midwest on Sunday caused chaos for air travelers which is still impacting flights across the nation.
At Valley International Airport, American Airlines Flight 3963 from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport was canceled this morning.
United Airlines Flight 4038 from George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston also was canceled as a cascade of delays and missed flights spread across the country.
But as of mid-morning today, about a dozen other flights into Harlingen on American, United, Southwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines were all proceeding on schedule, according to the Flight Tracker website.
Television station KTRK in Houston reported that hundreds of passengers were stranded as dozens of flights were canceled due to weather.
Some passengers who had arrived on Sunday afternoon were being told they would be in Houston until at least Tuesday before they could embark on a flight to their destination.
“We continue to monitor the weather at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and are working to get impacted customers to their destinations as quickly as possible,” United Airlines reported in a statement. “We’ve issued a travel waiver for those traveling today through IAH — customers can change their flight at no cost on our mobile app or by calling us. We encourage customers to visit our app or united.com for the latest information about their flight.”
