SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — A festive night filled with music, dancing and food is in store for animal lovers who want to support a good cause.
Friends of Animal Rescue will host its fifth annual Raise the Ruff fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. at Laguna BOB on the Island.
In addition to live music by Bongo Dogs, there will be a live auction with prize packages.
Tickets are $25 each and include a meal ticket for Laguna BOB that may be used June 15 or June 16.

Friends of Animal Rescue President and Co-Founder Jacky Conrad said the fundraiser always has a “good crowd.”
“It’s a really great way to get together people who love animals and support our cause,” Conrad said. “Getting to see everybody and tell our story and what our vision is for the future is what we’re all about.”
Friends of Animal Rescue’s role
Since Friends of Animal Rescue was formed in 2010, the nonprofit has cared for thousands of animals.
From reuniting lost pets with their owners to vetting both domestic and wildlife animals and helping them get adopted, Friends of Animal Rescue aims to protect and serve as a voice for the animals.
Proceeds from the Raise the Ruff fundraiser will benefit Friends of Animal Rescue’s Capital Building Campaign.
What’s the Capital Building Campaign?
In May 2018, Friends of Animal Rescue announced the start of its Unleash the Possibilities capital campaign to build a new animal care center.
In January of this year, Friends of Animal Rescue completed phase one of its campaign and purchased land adjacent to its current property.
In the new facility, shelter personnel hope to have specified areas such as separate dog and cat adoption interview rooms, receiving and exam rooms and observation kennels that will allow visitors to see animals through glass windows.
