Heat advisory issued for afternoon hours

HARLINGEN — A heat advisory has been issued for the Rio Grande Valley for this afternoon.

Extreme humidity which arrived following the passage of a tropical disturbance, coupled with high temperatures, will raise “feels-like” temperatures to dangerous levels between 1 and 7 p.m.

The National Weather Service in Brownsville issued the alert for anticipated heat values of between 111 and 115 degrees during the hottest hours of the day.

The advisory covers all of the Rio Grande Valley, and includes Brooks and inland Kenedy counties.

Actual high temperatures today will range from 86 on South Padre Island, 97 in Brownsville and as high as 101 in McAllen.

Highs Friday through Sunday will be even more extreme, ranging from 98 along the coast to 108 and 111 farther west.
