HARLINGEN — When unsafe environments result in children being removed from their homes, the Bair Foundation steps in to find safe, stable and nurturing places where these children can excel and heal.
The Bair Foundation of Texas Christian Foster Care and Adoption agency is seeking participants for its new foster care program.
Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., the foster care agency will host an orientation session for its Professional Treatment Foster Care (PTFC) program at 1317 East Washington in Harlingen.
The PFTC program aims to stabilize foster care children and help them meet their long-term goal of either reunification of the family or adoption.
Foster parents will receive extensive parenting skills training, 24-hour crisis support and guidance, financial reimbursement for the care and supervision of children and adolescents, medical coverage for children and adolescents and opportunities available for foster to adopt.
To qualify for the foster care program, applicants must have one stay-at-home parent, short-term six to nine month intervention, extensive support and case management, training to match the needs of the kids and earn up to $50,000 per placement or per year.
According to Bair Foundation Foster Parent Recruiter Brenda Ramirez, the PFTC program is going to provide more support than a regular foster home program would and the reimbursement will also be higher.
“I’ve worked in foster care and have seen what a regular, traditional foster home environment is like as opposed to professional treatment foster care,” Ramirez explained. “So, I think this is a great program because it prepares foster care children to transition into a permanency option.”
