HARLINGEN— It’s not just hard work.
It’s also a willingness to learn that helps make a person a leader.
That’s what Bryan Streiff, a 19-year-old from Reno, Nevada, says.
Bryan is Cadet Major and a senior at Marine Military Academy.
But he says it’s not just learning from the success of people above you. It’s also about learning from their mistakes.
The Valley Morning Star recently asked Bryan to tell us about his thoughts on leadership and success.
VMS: Why are you attending MMA?
Bryan: I am attending Marine Military Academy to learn skills that will serve me in my future endeavors. Some of those skills are time management, leadership, and responsibility.
VMS: What is the most important thing MMA has taught you?
Bryan: MMA has given me a better understanding of myself and helped me realize my full potential.
VMS: How were you able to achieve the rank you’re in now at MMA?
Bryan: I achieved my rank by staying consistent and being willing to listen to advice and criticism.
VMS: What are your goals after graduating MMA and how will you be able to achieve them?
Bryan: My plan is to earn a degree in physical therapy at the University of Oregon and commission as an officer in the U.S. Marines. I will achieve this by utilizing the skills MMA taught me in my daily life.
VMS: What does it take to be a leader?
Bryan: Hard work, consistency, self-discipline, and a willingness to learn.
VMS: What advice would you give young students seeking to succeed in college and beyond?
Bryan: Learn not only from the success of people above you, but also from their mistakes.
