San Benito police search for shooting suspect, area schools on lockout

San Benito Police are looking for man accused of shooting a woman at his home this morning and then running away wearing only in his pajamas.

According to a San Benito PD Facebook post, Jose Luis Garcia Jr. wounded the woman at his home on Jay Street, near South Sam Houston Boulevard, south of Expressway 77.

The woman was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Police say Garcia fled his home, running between homes in the neighborhood. He was only wearing pajama pants and no pajama top. They say he has a shaved heard and tattoos on his arms.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported on Twitter it is assisting the San Benito PD and asking residents in the area near the 300 block of Jay Street to stay away.

San Benito CISD interim director of public relations Isabel Gonzalez said six area schools are on lock out, meaning all students are inside the campus buildings and all exterior doors are locked to visitors as a precaution.

Anyone with information on Garcia is asked to call (956) 456-4001. Police are also asking anyone with a more current picture of the suspect to send it to authorities.
