San Benito Chamber to host annual Resaca City Bike Tour

SAN BENITO — Valley cyclists can take a cool ride this chilly weekend and contribute to a good cause.

The San Benito Chamber of Commerce will host its third annual Resaca City Bike Tour fundraiser starting at Heavin Memorial Park on Saturday beginning promptly at 8 a.m.

Participants can choose one of three separate bike courses — 20 miles, 40.4 miles and 62.4 miles.

Local law enforcement will guide cyclists throughout each course.

Additionally, safety and gear vehicle volunteers will patrol the routes and assist cyclists with any issues, such as flat tires.

Five water stations sponsored by different chamber members will be located throughout the tour.

Medals will be given to all participants and hotdogs will be served after the bike tour.

The cost to register is $30 and all proceeds will benefit the San Benito Chamber of Commerce.

Executive director and organizer Anna Putegnat Garcia said because the routes are so lengthy, they’re asking for participants who are experienced cyclists that are in shape and are familiar with these types of bike rides.

As of Tuesday, the Resaca City Bike Tour had about 150 registrants.

Garcia describes the cycling community in the Valley as being one of the largest.

“It’s this really wonderful group of people,” Garcia explained. “There are tons of different clubs in all of the cities that train together with the ultimate goal of competing in triathlons.”
