Concert series continues with traditional country music

HARLINGEN — Protégés of the late country music legend Merle Haggard will take the stage at the Harlingen Municipal Auditorium as part of the Harlingen Concert Association’s 2018-2019 concert series.

The Malpass Brothers, who were Haggard’s opening act for seven years, will perform traditional country songs, old-time gospel tunes and some original compositions on Friday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m.

As part of the show, the North Carolina siblings Christopher and Taylor Malpass offer a mix of singing, guitar playing and story telling about the many legendary country singers they admire.

“Taylor and I were born 50 years too late,” Christopher joked in a press release statement. “We drive old cars, we wear old hairstyles. We’re very retro.”

Expect to hear songs by the Louvin Brothers, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, and Hank Williams’ steel guitar player Don Helms, with whom they recorded and toured.

Tickets are $35 and are available online at www.HarlingenConcert.com or at the auditorium box office, 1204 Fair Park Blvd. The box office is open Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and an hour before each performance.
