Annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic coming up

HARLINGEN — It’s almost time to tee off for a good cause.

The Cottonwood County Clubhouse will transform into a sea of pink on Feb. 21 for the 17th Annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic fundraiser hosted by the Cottonwood Ladies Golf Association.

The event will include a 9-hole best ball golf scramble, raffles, flag prizes, a luncheon and a silent auction.

The Cottonwood Ladies Golf Association is seeking donated items such as merchandise baskets, golf equipment, dining certificates, gift cards, plants, jewelry, purses, adult beverages and money.

Additionally, the association is seeking companies or individuals to sponsor a hole in honor or memory of someone for a minimum $50 donation.

Signs will be placed on one of nine golf holes at random with the sponsor’s name and the names of the people they want to honor.

Proceeds will be given back to the Harlingen community by helping women receive medical screening for breast cancer and women’s health services through the Valley Baptist Foundation’s Carolyn Fund and Walk for Women.

Pink Ribbon Golf Classic volunteer Sandy Musick describes the fundraiser as a “true grassroots movement.”

“It started years ago with a small group of ladies and it’s grown into such a wonderful event,” Musick said. “We feel that everyone is touched in some way by cancer so we hope the small amount that we do here can help someone who needs support.”

With the help of community business donations and golf participants, the Cottonwood Ladies Golf Association was able to donate $18,000 last year and aims to raise more money this year.

“We feel we get so much more than we give,” Musick said. “It’s almost indescribable because it’s really a sisterhood when we’re there together working to help fight cancer and help people that have this horrible disease.”
