Service to remember newborns who died

HARLINGEN — The death of a newborn is a difficult and emotional time for parents and family members, but they are not alone during their grief.

Those mourning the loss of a child through miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn death are invited to the annual Neonatal Memorial Service on Monday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. in the Woodward Conference Center near the South Tower Lobby at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

Valley Baptist-Harlingen Chaplain Joe Jaime considers this memorial service an important part of the grieving process.

“It brings validation and affirmation that life was real, even for a brief moment, for these mothers who have experienced a pregnancy,” Jaime said in a press release.

Members of all faiths are welcome to attend the non-denominational service.

The service will include a special flower ceremony, where attendees are invited to place white flowers on a heart-shaped wreath in memory of the child they lost.
