Community health fair at the mall

HARLINGEN — Want to get your blood pressure checked?

A Community Health Fair at the mall today is doing just that and more — and it’s all free.

The Valley AIDS Council and the Office of Border Public Health are hosting the fair today at Valle Vista Mall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The OBPH is part of the Texas Department of State Health Services.

“We are hosting the health fair to celebrate our 30 years in providing services to the community,” said Wally Cantu, CEO of VAC.

“We want to remind the community that we are able to provide our services to anyone, regardless of citizenship status,” Cantu said. “Our goal is to strengthen our ties to the community as we recommit ourselves to continue to improve the health of our community.”

Free screenings will include not only blood pressure but also vision, body fat, blood glucose and finger-stick rapid HIV testing.

More than 30 partners will offer a variety of services, which will also include educational materials and presentations. There will also be chalupa games.
