Chamber begins centennial year with new chairman

HARLINGEN — A new boss is leading the chamber into its centennial year.

The Harlingen Area Chamber of Commerce has named Tre Peacock, president and chief executive officer of Peacock General Contractors, as its new chairman.

Peacock replaces Josh Fields of the Shepard Walton King Insurance Agency, who ended his one-year stint last month.

“As chairman of the Harlingen Area Chamber of Commerce, I look forward to leading this great organization into its centennial year,” Peacock stated. “I will do my best to keep the chamber transparent.”

The chamber is also preparing to push its interests during next year’s legislative session, Peacock stated.

“Every other year is a legislative year and we happen to be going into an important one,” he stated. “We are poised to fight for our members’ needs in the fields of heath care, education, public infrastructure, construction and others.”

Peacock stressed the importance of boosting the chamber’s membership.

“Membership is vital to our organization,” he stated. “We strive not only to raise our membership and partners in numbers but also in fellowship.”

Peacock also unveiled the chamber’s new motto.

“I ask you to consider embracing our theme this year of ‘Be strong, get involved and have fun!”

This year, the chamber’s board of directors will include Jacob Boggus, sales manager at Boggus Ford; Lucy Cadenas, Realtor with Century 21 Johnston Company; Michele Robinson, Harlingen Market President at Texas Regional Bank; and Scott Allex, certified wealth strategist and advisor at Level Four Wealth Management.

Meanwhile, the chamber’s executive directors include Fields; Chairwoman-Elect Brenda Ivory of Harlingen Medical Center; Secretary Bonnie Villarreal of Rio Vista Dentistry; and Treasurer Kyle Orgera of First Community Bank.

Additional directors on the board include Daniel Martinez of Farmers Insurance Daniel Martinez Agency; Edward Sokolosky of United Capital Financial Life Management; and Frank Castellanos of Chick-fil-A in Harlingen.
