U.S. Customs and Border Protection will temporarily halt traffic Tuesday at the Veterans International Bridge in Brownsville as officials commemorate the 17th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001attacks.

Authorities report there will be a temporary stoppage of vehicle traffic on the international bridge at about 7:30 a.m. so authorities can hold a 9/11 ceremony. Traffic will resume at 8 a.m.

Officials urge the public to make arrangements

to use the two other international bridges in Brownsville if they plan to travel from Matamoros to Brownsville at the time the ceremony is to take place. The public can also use the Free Trade Bridge at Los Indios as an alternative route to avoid heavy traffic.

“We would like to remind the traveling public that CBP will continue to process vehicular traffic at the two alternate crossing locations, Gateway International Bridge and the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge to ensure continuity of operations and traffic flow during the temporary stoppage at Veterans International Bridge during the commemoration ceremony,” Port Director Tater Ortiz said in a press release.
