The United States Coast Guard assisted a fishing vessel taking on water 30 miles northeast of South Padre Island on Tuesday night.

The USCG said in a press release that its Corpus Christi station received a report that a vessel named the Cosa Fina was taking on water and in need of assistance.

Two 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement boat crews were dispatched from South Padre Island and a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew launched from Corpus Christi to assist the Cosa Fina.

The USCG crews from South Padre Island passed a dewatering pump to the Cosa Fina’s crew, who were able to keep pace with the rate of flooding until the source of the water was secured.

The Coast Guard Cutter Jacob Poroo will escort the Cosa Fina back to shore, the USCG said in a press release.
