The Texas Department of Safety will prepare and submit its investigation to the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office into a fatal accident in Harlingen that left a Brownsville bicyclist dead.

“The case is still under investigation,” DPS Spokesman Lt. Johnny Hernandez said Tuesday.

On Aug. 19, 47-year-old Rosa “Rosy” Romo died while on a cycling outing with other biking enthusiasts who were traveling east on FM 106 when a Ford F-250 struck her east of FM 509 just outside the Harlingen city limits around 7:30 a.m.

DPS reported Romo and another cyclist, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, were taken to the hospital, where Romo died.

Hernandez did not respond to emailed questions asking whether DPS would identify the driver, if the driver would be charged, and whether the agency’s investigation determined the cause of the accident.
