No cell phones during San Benito commission meetings?

SAN BENITO — City commissioners are expected to consider prohibiting officials from using cell phones while sitting at the dais during open and closed-door city meetings.

Commissioner Tony Gonzales said some residents have complained about officials’ use of cell phones during meetings.

Mayor Ben Gomez said he proposed the ban. The proposal would prohibit commissioners as well as officials appointed to other city boards.

Commissioner Carol Lynn Sanchez understood concerns behind the Gomez’s request.

However, Sanchez, the mother of three young children, including a newborn, she would like the city to consider limiting officials’ use of cell phones to respond to emergencies.
