HARLINGEN – A Harlingen police officer on patrol struck a woman who darted out on the street just north of downtown.
The accident happened at around 9:30 p.m. on the 700 block of North 1st Street near the intersection of Lee Street.
The officer himself called in the accident to dispatchers.
According to police, the woman was crossing 1st Street when she was struck by the driver’s side mirror of the southbound patrol car.
The officer was on patrol and not headed to an emergency. The 64-year-old woman was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center for her injuries.
