HARLINGEN — Armed with her laptop Beatriz Reynoso will be leading the charge to elect Beto O’Rourke (D-16th District) to the U.S. Senate with the campaign’s text messaging strategy at his downtown grassroots campaign headquarters.
She is one of more than 100 people who attended yesterday’s Beto for Texas grassroots campaign headquarters grand opening.
And, with the help of other volunteers, Reynoso said they plan to reach out to every potential voter and Beto supporter in Harlingen with text messages.
Reynoso, 30, a Harlingen resident and U.S. Air Force veteran said she became interested in O’Rourke’s politics when she saw him on C-SPAN speaking during a nearly 26-hour sit-in by House Democrats in which they tried to push a vote on gun control legislation in 2016.
“He’s really interested in people and wants to represent all Texans,” Reynoso said yesterday at the O’Rourke campaign headquarters.
This volunteer-led office will serve as a grassroots headquarters for local supporters interested in organizing for the candidate.
“We are excited to open the first grassroots office for Beto O’Rourke in Harlingen because Texas deserves better. If we all work together, we can win this race,” said Hector Ruiz, a volunteer supporting O’Rourke.
The grand opening of a volunteer office drew many supporters from Harlingen and around the Valley.
The headquarters is 100 percent run by volunteers. Over the course of the campaign, volunteers will help launch phone banks, door-to-door canvasses, and organize meetings to help elect O’Rourke to be the next Senator from the State of Texas.
“We are in the home stretch of the campaign, said Liam deClive-Lowe, Beto for Texas grassroots headquarters organizer. “The election is exactly three months away on Nov. 6.”
After signing up to volunteer, many supporters walked out of the headquarters last night with campaign signs, literature, stickers and buttons.
“As a son of immigrants, I know that Beto will fight to ensure our immigration laws are reformed to legalize the status of millions of immigrants already in our country and ensure a fair path to citizenship and will represent people like me in Washington, D.C.,” Ruiz said.
