Floodwater seeped into about 40 homes within the city during late June, leaving homeowners potentially needing building permits to begin construction or demolition.
“Those are people that called that they got affected (by flooding), but now that they see this or hear this, (more) might come forward,” said Chief Building Official Roy Jimenez with the city of Donna.
Though fees for homeowners affected by flooding will be waived, homeowners must still apply for permits, which typically vary in cost.
The deadline to apply for a building permit is Sept. 4, the same day as the deadline to apply for disaster assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
McAllen announced in July it would also be waiving permit fees for the about 2,800 homeowners who sustained flooding to their property, The Monitor previously reported.
In Donna, homeowners are asked to submit a building permit application at city hall and provide proof of flooding inside their home to qualify for the waiver.
