The Brownsville Public Utilities Board issued a water boil notice Saturday morning, warning certain customers to boil water for drinking, cooking and ice-making.

The boil notice impacts “all customers living within the boundaries of north of Ruben M. Torres, Sr. Boulevard, FM 802 and east of West Alton Gloor Boulevard, south of FM511 and west of Dana Avenue,” according to a social media post.

It follows an overnight break in a 24-inch water line on Diamond Drive.

Water should be brought to a “vigorous rolling boil” and continue boiling for two minutes in order to destroy harmful bacteria or microbes, BPUB wrote, or customers can purchased bottled water.

“BPUB will flush the system and perform analytical studies to monitor water quality,” according to the social media post. “We will advise the public when the boil water notice is lifted. In addition, we will keep our customers and followers updated via social media channels.”
