The Texas Rangers are investigating an officer involved shooting that left a Brownsville police officer and another man injured.

Authorities report the officer was responding to an aggravated robbery when he exchanged gunfire with the man.

The unidentified officer was shot in the leg. The suspect was shot in the stomach, police said in a press release.

Authorities say the officer is in stable condition and the suspect was in surgery Thursday morning.

Police said in a press release, that the exchange of gunfire occurred in the pharmacy area of a store on the 700 block of E. Alton Gloor at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The press release doesn’t say the name of the store, but there is a CVS at that location, which would have a pharmacy.

According to police, the suspect showed the clerk a handgun and responding officers confronted the man in the pharmacy before gunfire broke out.

Police reported no other injuries and the case remains under investigation.
