BROWNSVILLE — The entrances to CVS Pharmacy y Más in north Brownsville were blocked with yellow police tape and road barriers yesterday as Texas Rangers investigated an officer-involved shooting that left a Brownsville police officer and another man injured.

Authorities report the officer responded to an aggravated robbery about 1:20 a.m. yesterday in the 700 block of Alton Gloor and exchanged gunfire with the man.

The unidentified officer was shot in the leg. The suspect was shot in the stomach, police said in a press release.

Authorities said the officer was in stable condition and the suspect was in surgery yesterday morning. Brownsville Police Department spokesman J.J. Treviño said they were taken to Valley Regional Medical Center but did not have an update on their conditions yesterday afternoon.

Police said in a press release that the exchange of gunfire occurred in the pharmacy area of a store on the 700 block of E. Alton Gloor but did not name the store. The CVS Pharmacy at that location advertises itself as a 24-hour location.

The suspect showed the clerk a handgun, and responding officers confronted the man in the pharmacy before gunfire broke out, according to the news release.

Police reported no other injuries. DPS Sgt. Maria Montalvo confirmed the Rangers are investigating the shooting and deferred all other questions to Treviño.
