Police department to host Father’s Day celebration

SAN BENITO — Calling all fathers out there for a special event.

The San Benito Police Department will be hosting a Father’s Day event.

A health fair and financial wellness booths will be available on site for fathers and their families.

Those in attendance will be treated to information on a variety of topics such as financial planning, transportation resources and realtor services.

Police Chief Michael Galvan said a group of businesses came together and wanted to promote health and wellness.

“They wanted information on how to rent a location for this event and we thought why not here at the PD,” Galvan said. “We have a lot of fathers who work here and we have the space.”

There will be many family-friendly activities at the event as well, including music, giveaways and raffles.

“We also want to promote health and wellness in our own department as well as the community so it is a win-win situation,” Galvan said.

Different vendors will be on-site to help with financial planning and provide information on health services.

The event is free and open to the public.

Galvan said the Father’s Day event is part of a bigger initiative to collaborate more with the community.

“We have changed our view on policing and come to realize that we can accomplish a lot more through collaboration,” Galvan said.

“We will now on collaborate with our community as much as possible so we can work together for a common goal of having a great quality of life here in San Benito.”

Galvan said everyone is encouraged to attend the event, even mothers.
