SkillsUSA Chapter 3152 win grand prize in nationwide video challenge

San Benito High School Audio Visual (AV) Production SkillsUSA Chapter 3152 students and SkillsUSA advisors Joel Rodriguez and Isabel De La Cruz are shown accepting the $10,000 grand prize for winning the “Show Off Your Skills” nationwide video challenge!

SkillsUSA representatives – National SkillsUSA Executive Director Tim Lawrence, SkillsUSA Texas Executive Director Janet Connor, and Rio Grande Valley SkillsUSA District 13A-13B Director Minnie Rodgers – visited San Benito to personally present the grand prize monies.

The AV Production SkillsUSA Chapter 3152 had initially been selected as one of five finalists in this year’s “Show Off Your Skills” nationwide challenge sponsored by Stanley Black & Decker – a global provider of hand tools, power tools and related accessories, electronic security solutions, healthcare solutions, engineered fastening systems and more.

Nearly 2,500 students and teachers nationwide participated by submitting 60-second videos promoting the personal, workplace, and technical skills used in service to others.

Not only did the local SkillsUSA Chapter 3152 win the grand prize, the SkillsUSA Texas Association was guaranteed a grant of $2,500 courtesy of Stanley Black & Decker. However, that $2,500 check was also given to the grand prize winners for their hard work and dedication.

The grand prize video featured the students’ Digital Media Academy service initiative that showcased the skills of video editing, broadcast production and the film production process and in dedicated service to the community of San Benito.
