Couple rescued when truck rolls over onto school property

HARLINGEN — Students were reported to be safe after a truck rolled over and struck the fence on Gutierrez Middle school grounds.

No injuries were reported.

Police arrived at the school located at 3200 block of Wilson Road at about 6:50 P.M. on Monday May 30, to offer assistance to a passenger truck rollover crash.

Police said the driver lost control of the truck striking a curb. The truck then rolled over and collided into a fence on the school property. The driver and passenger were extricated from the truck by citizens prior to police arrival.

The Harlingen Fire Department and South Texas Emergency Care EMS provided treatment and transported both occupants to Valley Baptist Medical Center.

CAR AND BUS COLLIDE

Earlier in the day a bus carrying students from Gutierrez Middle School headed home for the day was involved in an accident around 4 p.m.

Harlingen Police say the accident happened on the 1900 block of N. Business 77.

Police said a car and the bus were traveling southbound on N. Business 77 when the driver of the car attempted to change lanes side swiping the bus.

No one on the bus was injured, but a passenger in the car was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center.

The driver of the car was given a ticket for unsafe lane change.
