City seeks best salsa for contest

SAN BENITO — Calling all salsa experts.

Have an award-winning recipe for salsa or at least one that’s popular among your friends and family?

The city of San Benito is in search of residents and their amazing salsa recipes.

Contestants who think they have the best salsa will be able to enter their recipes in a competition during the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta.

The contest is open to anyone and everyone but the salsa must be homemade.

Potential contestants will be asked to bring at least one pint of their salsa the afternoon of the event.

Salsas will be judged based on three criteria including taste, texture and appearance.

Participants can bring either hot, medium or mild flavored salsa, but it must be labeled.

Entrance for the contest is $5 and half of the money collected will be given to the first-place winner.

After the winners are announced, salsa not used during the judging process will be displayed for tasting with chips and drinks provided.

In addition to the contest, the fiesta will include a large number of family-friendly activities including luchadores, craft vendors and musical groups.
